TSB – 07 Tap Handle Adjustment

Summary

Adjustment of steam and hot water handles

Tools and parts required:

  • 2 x custom Lapera tap wrenches

Procedure

There are two Lapera wrenches on a ring that came with the machine – they are for adjusting the steam and hot water valves. We like to reduce the backlash as much as possible but this means the valves get close to the cracking point on the seals. Occasionally the valves can cease to close. There are two nuts, a thick one mostly inside the wooden handle (the adjustment nut) and a thin one (the lock nut) just behind it as you face the machine.

Holding both nuts with the wrenches, turn the lock nut a 1/4 or 1/2 a turn clockwise and then re-tighten the adjustment nut against it. Repeat if necessary if the leak doesn’t stop.
